Description
Mozambique has an incredible coastline full of amazing megafauna including residential whale sharks, manta rays, dolphins, turtles and seasonal humpback whales.
Inhambane, also known as Land of The Good People, is a special place not only with incredible marine life but also awesome people – a community that this project works very closely with on conservation and education projects.
The tourism project belongs to a grassroots organisation with marine conservation at its core. Running these expeditions is a core source of funding for the conservation and educational outreach efforts. Expedition revenue is more reliable than donations and grants and they love sharing their slice of paradise with people like you!

Activities included in Package:
Inhambane City Walking tour – This walking tour is around the main city and can take about 3 hours. It covers the history of the city, and Mozambique culture, and is a great opportunity to see the urban side of Mozambique.
Cultural tour– This tour is an afternoon around our local community. We visit both the schools we’re partnered with, learn to cook some local delicacies and visit the farm of one of the LTO team.
3 Whale watching trips (2 with research) – We’re lucky to have seasonal humpback whales (July – October) and residential dolphins, whale sharks and mantas. Whale-watching trips are the perfect opportunity to spend a couple of hours on the water and see what we can find!
2 SUP with Whales trips – During whale season (July – October) getting out on the stand-up paddle boards with these giants can lead to some pretty incredible interactions.
Coral snorkeling trip – Coral Gardens is our local snorkel sight. A short trip down the coast or a drive and swim out takes us to this gorgeous coral reef nursery ground which is beautiful for a snorkel at low tide!
Dinner at Sunset Lodge – This is a great evening following the mangrove snorkel. This location has a bar inside their pool, and an absolutely breathtaking sunset view. The perfect place for sunset cocktails.
Seahorse safari & lunch out – For something a little different, we can drive up the estuary and go snorkeling in the brackish water. These waters are a little different from our beaches with more sea horses, frogfish and critters to find amongst the mangroves and sea grass!
Visit to the local market – Visit the local market and support this community by buying from local artisans, farmers and other small businesses. Most of them are local women supported by the LTO.
Choose between:
- Kayaking in the mangroves – This tour around the mangroves is a great chance to spot all kinds of wildlife with an experienced guide with coconuts to snack on.
or
- SUP mangroves – Rio Mutamba has a range of different habitats along its mouth and we’ll take a 4-5hr paddle through farmland, jungle and mangroves. We need a very calm day for this so we’ll need to hit the water depending on the weather.
Variety of talks from qualified marine biologists at LTO – With your trip, you’ll have a qualified marine biologist on call 24/7. Part of what we can offer is a selection of different lectures about their work and the amazing marine life you will likely see on the trip.
