The mystical Lake Mývatn, a haven for birdlife and geothermal phenomena, invites travelers to explore its volcanic craters, steaming vents, and tranquil waters.

Nearby, the charming town of Húsavík is renowned as Iceland’s whale-watching capital, offering unforgettable encounters with these majestic creatures in their natural habitat.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival & Akureyri

Accommodation: North Hotel (Standard Room)

Welcome to Iceland. Pick up your pre-booked rental car at Akureyri Domestic Airport. Always guarantee to have a car that allows you to drive on every road. Full coverage insurance is also advised.

Time to download the app that will be your guide and road map for the entire stay.

Explore the so-called capital of the North. The charming city center has kept its Danish style while Akureyri was long a Danish trading center.

The women of the Danish merchants did miss trees from their homeland and started to plant them at the hill next to the harbor, this became one of the most northernly located botanical gardens.

Day 2: Tröllaskagi (Breakfast Included)

Accommodation: North Hotel (Standard Room)

Today you will travel along the Tröllaskagi peninsula.

There are a few small fishing villages located on the peninsula, such as Siglufjörður, where you can visit the herring museum or enjoy the local cuisine, the bakery in Siglufjörður is a must if you are in the mood.

Near Dalvík you can take a detour into the picturesque Svarfaðardalur valley where the mountains feel huge and up-close. Or unwind in the Beer spa located in Árskógssandur.

Day 3: Enroute to Mývatn

Accommodation: Hlíð Cottages (Cottage – Self-Catering)

Today you will make your way to lake Mývatn. Which is located on the Diamond Circle.

We recommend visiting Goðafoss waterfall as a start of the Diamond Circle.

Day 4: Diamond Circle

Accommodation: Hlíð Cottages (Cottage – Self-Catering)

Continue exploring the Diamond Circle today.

The Diamond Circle highlights include Lake Mývatn, Skútustaðir pseudo craters, Dimmuborgir rock formation, Mývatn Nature Baths, Dettifoss waterfall.

End the day by visiting Mývatn Nature Baths for a relaxing soak before heading back to your accommodation.

Day 5: Húsavík (Breakfast Included)

Accommodation: Húsavík Fosshotel (Standard Room)

Today you will visit Húsavík which is another highlight of the Diamond Circle. Húsavík also known as the whale-watching capital of Iceland, also features the largest whale museum.

You can also visit the Eurovision Museum or the GeoSea baths.

Activity: Original Whale Watching – North Sailing

Day 6: Backtrack to Akureyri (Breakfast Included)

Accommodation: North Hotel (Standard Room)

Today you will travel back from Húsavík to Akureyri.

Take your time to visit locations or join activities that you left out on the way.

Maybe visit the Forest Lagoon for a final soak before leaving Iceland.

Day 7: Day of Departure

Return the rental car to Egilsstaðir domestic airport. Time to say goodbye to Iceland.
